Ukraine reportedly retakes Snihurivka, important logistics hub for Russian troops on Dnipro River's right bank
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have reportedly liberated the city of Snihurivka in the Mykolaiv region.
Multiple Ukrainian news outlets and Telegram channels shared a video in which a Ukrainian soldier surrounded by other soldiers and local residents announces that the city was liberated on November 10. The video appears to have been filmed in the western part of the city. The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ General Staff has not confirmed the reports.
On November 9, a photo purportedly showing the Ukrainian flag flying in western Snihurivka appeared online, though it’s unclear exactly where the photo was taken. That evening, Russian-backed city occupation administration head Yury Barbashov told Russian state media that Ukraine’s offensive on the city had been unsuccessful.
Russian forces first captured Snihurivka in March. As the point where all of the roads in the central part of Russia's bridgehead on the Dnipro's right bank converge, the city has been an important logistics hub for the Russian military.
On November 9, Russia’s military leaders announced Russian forces would retreat from the right bank of the Dnipro River, thus abandoning the city of Kherson. At that point, according to Meduza’s estimates, Russia controlled 4 percent of Ukraine’s Mykolaiv region. If Russia withdraws all of its troops from the Dnipro’s right bank, it will lose all of the territory it controls in the Mykolaiv region.
