Employees at St. Petersburg hospitals were sent a letter from the city’s healthcare committee telling them not to leave the country for work-related trips, according to multiple Russian media outlets.

“Until further notice, managers and workers of organizations subordinate to the healthcare committee should refrain from official travel on the territory of foreign countries, including CIS members,” read a letter signed by healthcare committee chairman Dmitry Lisovets.

The letter also told employees that private travel is allowed, but only to CIS countries, while business trips to any foreign countries should only be made with the permission of the city’s governor.

The committee itself told TASS that the letter is a “recommendation” being made for “security reasons.”
