In Minsk’s main airport, police have begun stopping men with Russian passports for inspections, according to Deutsche Welle Belarus. Though the exact reason for the stops is unclear, the Belarusian newspaper Nasha Niva reported earlier that Belarusian law enforcement agencies have received instructions to look for Russians attempting to evade conscription.
“So far, they’ve only been instructed to monitor apartments that offer short-term rentals, and to get in touch with the owners. They’ve also been ordered to look for new cars with Russian license plates in the [apartments’] courtyards,” a source from the Belarusian Interior Ministry told Nasha Niva. “It seems to me that we’ll extradite them. [...] Catching a draft dodger is a piece of cake.”
