Russian authorities to hold 'referendum' in Zaporizhzhia region in September as planned

A “referendum” on whether to join Russia will be held in the occupied parts of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region in September, according to Alexander Saulenko, the Russian-appointed mayor of Berdyansk.

“We’re preparing for the referendum. It’s scheduled for September. I can’t give an exact date yet,” Saulenko told TASS.

In mid-August, sources close to the Kremlin told Meduza that the Russian authorities were considering postponing their planned “referendums” until the winter in light of their slow progress in the war.
