Russia confirms 54 new coronavirus cases, bringing total number of known infections to 253
On March 20, Russian health officials announced that they recorded 54 new cases of coronavirus in the previous 24 hours, bringing the country's number of confirmed COVID-19 infections to 253.
A day earlier, on March 19, Russia recorded 52 new cases of coronavirus. However, while only 12 new cases were recorded in Moscow on March 19, 33 confirmed cases were added on March 20.
Outside Moscow, new infections were recorded in the following regions: six in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), four in St. Petersburg, four in the Samara region, two in the Kirov region, two in the Novosibirsk region, and one each in the Moscow region, the Ulyanovsk region, and the Tyumen region.
In total, 12 individuals in Russia have been released following treatment for COVID-19. Seven of those patients were released in the last 24 hours: four in Moscow and three in the Lipetsk region.
Russia’s first reported fatality in the coronavirus pandemic was reported on March 19 in Moscow.
