Third suspect in attack on journalist Oleg Kashin sentenced in related kidnapping case
The St. Petersburg City Court has sentenced Vyacheslav Borisov to eight years in a high-security prison colony for his alleged role in the kidnapping of former CEO Alexander Gorbunov. Borisov has also lost a 300,000-ruble ($4,710) civil lawsuit related to the kidnapping.
The independent journalist Oleg Kashin accused Borisov and two other men of attacking him in 2010, nearly beating him to death. Gorbunov, the three men’s boss, was subsequently kidnapped and allegedly tortured until he confessed on tape to ordering the attack on Kashin. Borisov remained in hiding for almost a year after his fellow suspects in the Gorbunov case were sentenced; he was only captured in May 2019.
