Putin won't take off so much as a day to campaign for re-election

Source: RIA Novosti

Vladimir Putin won’t be taking any time away from the presidency to run for re-election, says Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Russia’s Central Election Commission has ruled that election laws allow the commander in chief to remain at work during an election season, though other civil servants are not permitted to perform their official duties during political campaigns.

In previous presidential elections, Putin has also declined to use vacation time to campaign for votes, though in 2012 he did take off a few individual days to meet with election observers and his own official proxies (i.e., the people who speak for him at debates, which he does not attend).
