Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov is warning Washington against attempts to intervene in Iranian domestic affairs, accusing the United States of trying to using the country’s current political unrest to undermine the Iran nuclear deal reached in July 2015.

“What’s going on there [in Iran] is an internal affair [...] and despite many attempts to distort these events, I’m sure that our neighbor — a state with which we enjoy friendly relations — can overcome these current difficulties and emerge from this period as an even stronger nation and a reliable partner on various issues, including those related to further implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action,” Ryabkov said.

Mass protests against rising food prices began in Iran on December 28. Since then, more than 20 people have been killed, dozens have been injured, and police have arrested hundreds more.
