Federal agents have detained Alexey Kramarenko, the former head of the Moscow Investigative Committee branch, on suspicion of accepting a bribe from mobster Zakhariy Kalashov, known as “Young Shakro,” to facilitate the release of gangster Andrey Kochuikov, known as “The Italian,” who was detained after a shootout at the cafe “Elements” in December 2015 that claimed the lives of two people.

In addition to Kramarenko, three other former Investigative Committee officials are currently behind bars awaiting trial in connection with the Kochuikov case. One of these individuals, Denis Nikandrov (the former first deputy of the Investigative Committee’s Moscow headquarters), reportedly testified against Kramarenko.

At the time of his arrest, Alexey Kramarenko worked as a security official at the state oil company Rosneft.
