Moscow will now allow protesters to march against Internet censorship

Source: Parnas

The Moscow Mayor’s office will allow activists to stage a demonstration on July 23 in support of Internet freedom, granting the political party “Parnas” and its democratic coalition a permit to gather up to 10,000 people for a march from the Pushkinskaya subway station to Sakharov Prospekt.

The demonstrators plan to protest against Internet censorship and demand the exoneration of Russians prosecuted for posting content online. Activists will also call for the resignation of Alexander Zharov, the head of Roskomnadzor, Russia’s federal censor.

Earlier this month, Moscow officials rejected a permit application for a similar protest, citing a presidential decree on special security measures during the FIFA Confederations Cup, a soccer tournament held in Russia between June 17 and July 2.
