Former Duma deputy Denis Voronenkov killed in Kiev

Former Duma deputy Denis Voronenkov, who fled to Ukraine because of a criminal case, has been killed in Kiev, said local police chief Andrei Krishchenko on Thursday. Kievan authorities suspect that the attack was a contract killing.

According to the publication Vesti Ukraina, Voronenkov was killed at Premier Palace Hotel, along with another, yet to be identified, man. Ukrainskaya Pravda reported that there had been a shooting in the center of Kiev that left at least one person dead; the publication provided no names. According to unconfirmed reports, one person was killed and another was injured.

Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko has called an audience with the head of the country’s Security Service Vasily Hrytsak.
