Russia’s Internet watchdog wants to blocked LinkedIn

Russia’s Internet watchdog Roskomnadzor wants to block social networking site LinkedIn, because the company stores the personal data of its Russian users outside of Russia, which is a violation of Russia’s law on “personal data”.

In August 2016, a Moscow court has apparently agreed with Roskomnadzor that LinkedIn should be blocked. Now, both sides are preparing for an appellation to be held on November 10.

LinkedIn is a professional networking site. Five million of its users are Russians.

In accordance to amendments to Russia’s personal data law, effective from September 1, 2015, all companies that handle the personal data of Russian citizens must story this information in Russia.
