A field uniform has been developed for military chaplains, reported news agency TASS on Monday.

The uniform, said head of the army's religious services department Igor Agafonov, was presented at the congress of military clergymen.

The uniform resembles an ordinary soldier's uniform, but bears an Orthodox cross and has the ecclesiastical rank and name of each clergyman embroidered in the same place where a soldier would have his name and surname.

Military priests appeared in the modern Russian army in 2009.

In June 2016 the Defense Ministry website published a photo of one of the events at the Russian base in Gyumri, which was attended by the assistant commander Archimandrite Andrei. The media  noticed that the Archimandrite was wearing a robe in the form of a stylized uniform and suggested that this was a priests' uniform.
