Vladimir Markin, head of Russia’s Investigative Committee, officially resigned on Wednesday.

“I worked in the Investigative Committee from the first day of its formation, [that is for] more than nine years. I believe that I, along with the team, built an information policy and established a system of working in this field. My mission has been accomplished and I have decided to try my hand at a new career. This is the true motive behind my resignation,” said Markin.

Markin became the headed the press office of Russia’s Investigative Committee in 2007. Previously, he was journalist and a television presenter/host.

He holds the rank of Major General of Justice.
