Russian censors say Wikimedia is exaggerating the risk that Wikipedia will be banned

Russia’s federal media censor, Roskomnadzor, says the Wikimedia Foundation is spreading a “PR myth” when the foundation claims Russian officials might shut down Wikipedia.

Roskomnadzor argued in a public statement that Wikimedia exaggerates the chances that Wikipedia could be blocked in Russia. Censors recently banned Wikisource, an online digital library operated by the Wikimedia Foundation, because it hosts a copy of the anti-Semitic text “Protocols of the Elders of Zion.” 

Wikipedia and Wikisource share the same IP address, creating a risk that both online resources could be blocked, as a result of Roskomnadzor’s decision, Wikimedia representatives warn.
