Early this morning, three Japanese citizens attempted to break into the Russian Embassy in Tokyo through its main gate, reports news agency TASS via a press release from the diplomatic mission.
Adding to the unusual nature of the incident, the three Japanese citizens attempting to illegally enter the embassy premises—a father and two daughters around the ages of 15 and 20—are of Swiss descent, says the Russian embassy's press service.
“Referring to Japanese persecution ‘because of the family's anti-American beliefs,’ the aforementioned citizens express their intentions to alert the embassy and ask for political asylum,” said an embassy representative.
The Russian embassy noted the “very aggressive behavior of these individuals,” and stressed that local law enforcement had been contacted to help assist in resolving the situation.
At the same time, the press service emphasized their requests for asylum would be ”considered in the appropriate manner prescribed” and that the Japanese citizens will be notified of the embassy's decision.
