Russian lawmaker tells national TV networks to show more programming about Russia and less about the rest of the world

Olga Kazakova, the deputy chairperson of the State Duma's committee on public associations and religious organizations, called on national television networks to promote domestic tourism by airing more content about travel options within Russia, and broadcasting less about tourism abroad.

Kazakova said Russian TV doesn't devote enough attention to domestic tourism. “Our influential mass media—the television stations that everyone loves—don't show enough interest in this issue,” she argued before a Duma plenary session.

Kazakova claimed that her “electorate” in Stavropol demand greater promotion of Russia's tourism industry, referring to tourist businesses in her home district.

“I think the directors of the national television networks are watching us here today, and they should understand that, if we're talking about import-substitution in every sector, including tourism, then such a [low] share of programming about [tourism in] Russia is a big mistake,” Kazakova said.
