Kadyrov isn't going anywhere, Kremlin insiders say

Sources close to the Kremlin and the Chechen Republic's leadership tell the news agency RBC that Ramzan Kadyrov will get a new term in office and keep his post. According to insiders, Kadyrov will be appointed to serve as acting head of Chechnya when his term formally expires next month, and he'll run for reelection in September. RBC's sources say Kadyrov's recent public statements that he's ready to step down should not be taken seriously.

In a television interview that aired on February 27, Kadyrov said the time has come for Moscow to find his replacement. “So my name isn't used against my people, I think the government's leadership needs to find someone else. I say my time has passed,” Kadyrov said.
