Somebody inspired by Batman’s Joker has robbed the Russian Communist Party of its newspapers

Last night, somebody snuck into a garage outside Moscow and stole roughly 250,000 copies of Tulskaya Pravda, a newspaper owned and operated by the Russian Communist Party. The thieves took every copy of the paper, leaving behind just a single stack, with a joker playing card placed neatly on top. The stunt appears to wink at Batman’s arch nemesis, the Joker, who’s known in movies and comic books to leave behind a joker playing card at the scenes of his crimes.

Representatives of the Communist Party say they discovered the theft on August 23, when they went to collect the newspapers for distribution. Police have not reported any leads in their investigation.

Tulskaya Pravda is a national newspaper owned and operated by the Communist Party, though it does not publish campaign materials. In 2011, however, the newspaper was fined 30,000 rubles for carrying content deemed to be illegal campaign advocacy.
