Russian parents can look forward to a new mobile app that will allow them to monitor their youngsters' school attendance and grades, reports the newspaper Izvestia. The app's developer, Dnevnik.ru, says the app will also give parents the chance to communicate with their children's schoolteachers.

A spokesperson for Dnevnik says the app will target communities in Russia's regions (far from the metropolises of Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other large cities), where broadband Internet service is weak, and people generally rely on mobile data connections. The app is designed to function with Internet access at minimal speeds. The app will share students' grades, attendance records, and homework assignments, even offering push notifications for absences and bad grades. The public release is expected next month, in September.
