Police in Moscow and St. Petersburg accidentally detain yoga enthusiasts, mistaking them for Japanese cult terrorists

Source: Interfax

Police in Moscow and St. Petersburg detained roughly 30 people today, mistakenly believing them to be members of Aum Shinrikyo, the Japanese doomsday cult responsible for two terrorist attacks in the mid-1990s. Officers soon released everyone, after realizing that the people they'd taken into custody were merely part of a yoga group.

On April 5, police in Moscow and St. Petersburg reported that they were searching the homes of several suspected Aum Shinrikyo members, believing that the sect had illegally reformed in Russia.
