Russian Lego store confuses Tiananmen Square's ‘Tank Man’ with Russian military history

Source: Facebook

It's February 23 and Russia's first certified Lego store is wishing the nation a happy Defender of the Fatherland Day. To mark the holiday (which for nearly 100 years has celebrated the USSR's and Russia's military), the Lego store's social media marketing team cooked up a humdinger of a greeting on Facebook, posting a photo of a recreation of an important moment in history, reconstructed in Legos.

Except the historical moment captured in Legos had nothing to do with the Russian military: it was a recreation of the famous “Tank Man” scene from the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 in China.

“Happy Defender of the Fatherland Day, everyone!”

Shortly after posting the holiday greeting, the Lego store removed the image, but not before dozens of Facebook users managed to leave rather unhappy comments about the store's apparent ignorance when it comes to world history.
