A mass wave of suicide is sweeping the chipmunk population in Omsk

The residents of Omsk have launched a citizens’ campaign to rescue the city’s chipmunk population, which is apparently experiencing mass starvation, as well as a bizarre wave of suicides.

According to local reports, the chipmunks in Omsk have taken to impaling themselves on sharp sticks to avoid starving to death.

The expedition to bring food to Omsk’s chipmunks is being funded by the Russian Geographical Society.
