Russia’s Ministry of Extraordinary Situations celebrated 25 years of service earlier this week with a snowman competition in the streets of Novosibirsk.

One team of EMERCOM workers dressed its snowman in firefighter’s boots, and built him a canine companion (to the left of the group, in the photo below).

Another team of rescuers’ snow masterpiece resembled a broken-down firetruck.

The firetruck won second place, while third place went to the snowman firefighter and his dog. The winner of the contest was a snow sculpture of an emergency worker rescuing an infant.

Earlier this month, Japan hosted its own snowman festival, where the country’s Self-Defense Forces built a gigantic snow sculpture inspired by Star Wars, using more than 3,500 tons of snow.

In Novosibirsk, in celebrating 25 years of service, EMERCOM workers held a snow-sculpture festival. Emergency rescue crews combined creatively to build various sculptures out of snow, which—to our contestants’ great joy—proved to be in ample supply this year.
