A fragile truce is now holding in eastern Ukraine. Both sides acknowledge a sharp decline in fighting, and the withdrawal of heavy artillery is finally getting under way. Meduza sent photographer Max Avdeev to Donetsk to observe the clearing of debris and mines near the airport, which was once the epicenter of the war. The local graveyard, Avdeev says, is full of mines, too. The separatists are using POWs to assist their own emergency workers in clearing the debris and exhuming Ukrainian soldiers buried in the rubble.
