‘Happy birthday, hero!’ Mourners gather at Alexey Navalny’s grave in honor of his birthday

Mourners gathered to lay flowers at Alexey Navalny’s grave in Moscow’s Borisovsokye Cemetery on June 4, marking what would have been the late opposition leader’s 48th birthday. Navalny died in a remote arctic prison on February 17, 2024. According to the rights group OVD-Info, police arrested two women near Navalny’s graveside, while in Novosibirsk, two people were arrested for trying to lay flowers at a monument to victims of political repressions.
