On Tuesday, April 6, the medical workers’ union “Alyans Vrachey” (Doctors’ Alliance) led a rally outside the penal colony where Russian opposition politician Alexey Navalny is being held. The demonstrators demanded that Navalny be granted access to adequate medical care. After complaining repeatedly about his health deteriorating in prison, Navalny declared a hunger strike last week, seeking access to a specialist. Several hours into the rally outside Navalny’s prison, police officers began arresting demonstrators and members of the press. Doctors’ Alliance director Anastasia Vasilieva (pictured above) was among the people detained at the rally.
