The number of new COVID-19 cases in Moscow before and after the end of self-isolation

Source: Meduza

On June 8, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin announced the end of the capital’s self-isolation regime ahead of schedule. According Meduza’s sources in the government, quarantine restrictions were lifted in an attempt to improve the outcome of the July 1 plebiscite on constitutional amendments, following a conversation between Sobyanin and Russian President Vladimir Putin. In the days after the lockdown’s end, the daily number of new coronavirus cases in Moscow declined sharply — despite the fact that the city was seeing a steady increase of around 2,000 new cases per day the week before.
