Altai beer maker asks Putin to hand it Coca-Cola’s former Russian business

Bochkari, a beer and soft drink producer based in Altai, has asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to transfer the businesses of Multon and Multon Partners, the former Coca-Cola bottler, to its external management.

Sources told Kommersant on November 5 that the request, submitted in October, had been forwarded to the government and had already won support from some deputy prime ministers overseeing the sector.

Multon Partners said a local team runs the company and that it had received no notification of any changes.

Multon, owned by Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company, is one of Russia’s largest soft drink producers. After Coca-Cola wound down its business in Russia in 2022, Multon focused on local brands: Dobry, Rich, Moya Semya, Pulpy, Burn, and BonAqua.

After Russian media reported Bochkari’s proposal, shares in Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company fell nearly 19% on the London Stock Exchange to 54 pounds a share.

Russian authorities have previously placed the assets of several Western brands under temporary management, including Auchan, Nestle, Metro Cash & Carry, the former Leroy Merlin chain, and Japan Tobacco International.
