Russia’s human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova will lead Moscow’s side at Melania Trump’s Washington meeting with Ukrainian officials — if her traveling party can get visas
Russian human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova and presidential special envoy Kirill Dmitriev will represent Russia at a meeting in Washington organized by Melania Trump, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
“As I understand it, Yana Lantratova will lead the delegation, if she can get there in time,” Peskov said. He said that “as of a couple of hours ago, not everyone flying with her had received a visa yet.”
On November 3, the White House announced that Melania Trump planned to hold a meeting with Russian and Ukrainian representatives in Washington. Even after the official U.S. announcement, Peskov insisted that he knew “nothing about it.”
Ukraine will be represented at the meeting by Davyd Arakhamia, who leads the Servant of the People parliamentary faction, and Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian parliament’s human rights commissioner.
Lantratova and Lubinets coordinated a humanitarian mission in Oleshky, in the Kherson region, on behalf of Russia and Ukraine, respectively. The mission led to the evacuation of hundreds of people from the city. Both sides said Melania Trump was the main mediator in negotiating the truce.
Oleshky ceasefire and civilian evacuation
‘If this works, it will be the first real ceasefire across a large stretch of the front’: Russia and Ukraine maintain truce in occupied Oleshky for more than two days
Trapped without food, electricity, or medicine, civilians in occupied Oleshky finally have a chance to escape. But even those wishing to go to Ukraine will reportedly be taken to Russia first.
