Ukrainian drones attack Russia’s Samara region, reportedly striking Europe’s largest oil storage facility
Ukrainian drones struck Russia’s Samara region overnight on November 2. Regional authorities had not officially commented on the strikes by the time of publication, but Samara’s airport suspended operations for two hours because of the drone threat.
Ukrainian monitoring channels and Astra, an independent Telegram channel, cited photos and videos from eyewitnesses in reporting that the drones, according to preliminary reports, struck the Samara Linear Production and Dispatch Station (LPDS) near the settlement of Prosvet.
The Samara LPDS is the largest tank farm in Europe, part of a network operated by Transneft. Four pipelines carrying oil from Western Siberia, Tatarstan, the Orenburg region, and Kazakhstan connect to the station.
Ukrainian military drones struck the Samara LPDS several times in October, causing fires and damaging storage tanks.
