Ukraine won’t receive 500 newly approved U.S. Patriot missiles until at least late 2030, State Department says

Ukraine could receive 500 missiles for Patriot air defense systems from the United States between the fourth quarter of 2030 and the fourth quarter of 2033, European Pravda and CNN correspondent Jennifer Hansler reported, citing a State Department representative. The department previously approved the sale.

The agreement to purchase the interceptor missiles is expected to be signed after Congress approves the sale. Congress has 30 days to do so.

On October 30, the State Department said it had approved a possible sale of PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems to Ukraine. The deal is estimated at $2.1 billion. The department said partners and allies would cover the full cost.

Ukrainian authorities have reported shortages of Patriot missiles for several months. President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine currently receives an average of just 12 Patriot missiles a month. He has also accused the United States of deliberately delaying deliveries of interceptor missiles that NATO countries have already paid for.
