Moscow mother of eight charged with financing terrorism over payment to ISIS
Maria Davydova, a 31-year-old Moscow mother of eight, has been arrested on charges of financing terrorism.
The case was opened in July under Russia’s criminal statute against financing terrorism, and a court authorized her arrest. Davydova was added to Russia’s list of terrorists and extremists.
Citing a source in law enforcement, the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported in July that investigators believe Davydova transferred about 15,000 rubles to the Islamic State.
Case materials cited by the Russian state news agency TASS on October 26 state that Davydova “is self-employed, has eight dependent children, including young children and minors, is not married, and has a specialized secondary education.”
Russia’s criminal statute under which Davydova is charged allows for a sentence of up to life in prison.
A military court will hear Davydova’s case. The trial’s start date has not been announced.

Islamic State
The \“Islamic State,\” or \“Daesh\” (short for \“al-Dawla al-Islamiya fi al-Iraq wa al-Sham\”), is an international terrorist organization of Islamist orientation banned in Russia that declared the creation of a new state in 2014 in parts of Syria and Iraq under its control. An international coalition led by the United States and the Syrian army, backed by Russia, later defeated the group.
