Vovk said Gasilin died on October 4 in Moscow. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

The Voice Mag (formerly Cosmopolitan) reported that Gasilin “popularized blanket coats and made dresses in sophisticated shades and designer cuts affordable for many Russian women.”

Vovk called Gasilin “a great artist — someone with a vision of his own who had a major influence on Russian fashion and on how we think about the cut of contemporary clothing”:

His clothes were always recognizable — understated, precise, yet with a distinctive fluidity. He knew how to work with shape and color so that even the most complex pieces looked natural. He developed that attention to construction in part during an internship at the Paris haute couture house Dominique Sirop. Later, his passion for well-cut clothes became one of the foundations of his own label, which he founded in 2007.

In addition to creating fashion collections, Gasilin designed costumes for the Tokyo National Ballet’s program “The Afternoon of a Faun and His Nymph.” In 2020, he also worked with Alexander Vasilyev, a fashion historian and host of the television show “Modny prigovor” (“Fashion Verdict”), to design costumes for a production of “My Fair Lady” at the Russian Theater in Tallinn (now the Südalinna Theater). In 2023, he designed costumes for the ballet “La Bayadère” at the Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Theater.
