Moscow prosecutors open criminal case over production of Multikan-8 vaccine linked to dozens of dog deaths

The Moscow Prosecutor’s Office has opened a criminal case against a veterinary vaccine manufacturer accused of using a knowingly falsified document.

The agency said specialists found a forged quality certificate for one of the vaccine’s batches, which was uploaded to the electronic information system when the product entered circulation.

The prosecutor’s office did not name the company in its press release. Law enforcement sources told the Russian news agency Interfax that it is Vetbiokhim, which manufactures the vaccine Multikan-8.

In August, dog owners began reporting the deaths of their pets after vaccination with Multikan-8. In total, at least 169 dogs died. In samples from the vaccine’s 20th batch (which totaled 60,000 doses), live Aujeszky’s disease virus, deadly to animals, was found.
