Russian forces strike a second major Kyiv bridge across the Dnipro after two days of attacks on the South Bridge

Russian forces struck Kyiv’s Northern Bridge on the morning of October 3, damaging the road surface and overhead trolleybus power lines. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the bridge was partially closed to traffic.

On October 1 and 2, Russia carried out at least three drone attacks on Kyiv’s Southern Bridge, damaging a support, a guardrail, the road surface, and the metro’s protective concrete barrier. The bridge was closed to all traffic.

BBC Ukrainian reported that these were the first strikes of the war on Kyiv’s bridges across the Dnipro River.

Kyiv has nine bridges across the Dnipro, carrying road, pedestrian, and rail traffic. The Northern and Southern bridges are among the busiest and most important river crossings. In the preceding days, strikes on the two bridges also prompted partial traffic closures on other Kyiv bridges. Traffic jams formed in the city.
