Russian court sentences serial killer Alexei Gaskov to life for murdering nine women and one man outside Moscow

The Moscow Regional Court sentenced serial killer Alexei Gaskov to life in prison after finding him guilty of murdering nine women and one man. The court also ordered him to pay 3 million rubles.

Gaskov, 51, is from Berdsk. He first came to the attention of law enforcement in 2002, when he was living in Moscow and studying at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography, commonly known as VGIK. He was friends with Mikhail Yudin, another serial killer later known as the “Berdsk Maniac” or the “Denim Maniac.”

Gaskov was detained on suspicion of murdering a young woman he and Yudin had been staying with. He confessed to that killing and others, but his statements were inconsistent, and a forensic examination pointed to Yudin. In 2006, Gaskov was detained again in connection with the rape of an 11-year-old girl. He was sentenced to 10 years in a penal colony.

In 2024, Gaskov became a suspect in a series of murders committed about 20 years earlier in the Moscow region. Investigators say he killed nine young women and one man between March and November 2002. One victim was Agnes Carolina Santisteban, a 23-year-old student from Peru and the niece of an adviser to Peru’s president. Her body was found near a dormitory in Khimki.

Gaskov again confessed to the killings and claimed he had committed “more than 100” murders since 1995. Investigators did not confirm his involvement in any other crimes.
