Russia’s ruling party nominates Vyacheslav Volodin for a third consecutive term as speaker of the State Duma
United Russia has nominated Vyacheslav Volodin as speaker of the new State Duma, party leader Dmitry Medvedev told Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting.
Medvedev emphasized that Putin’s support factored into United Russia’s decision to nominate Volodin.
Volodin won a single-member district seat in Saratov with more than 82% of the vote, according to official results.
This will be Volodin’s third term as speaker. He has held the post since 2016.
United Russia won 349 of the State Duma’s 450 seats in the election — its best result ever. Independent election analysts said the party achieved that result through widespread vote rigging.
