More than 650,000 people left without water in Russia’s Far East after substation outage

The Shtykovo substation in Primorsky Krai’s Shkotovsky district went offline, shutting down four pumping stations and cutting off cold water to more than 650,000 people, the regional branch of Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry said.

The outage affected 3,660 apartment buildings, about 16,500 private homes, and 224 public-service facilities, according to the ministry.

Several districts of Vladivostok also lost water service. Schools there were advised to shorten classes or move afternoon classes online, the news outlet Govorit NeMoskva reported. Water deliveries were arranged for hospitals and clinics.

Water service is expected to be restored by midnight local time (5 p.m. Moscow time). The cause of the outage has not yet been announced.
