Fire at pyrotechnics warehouse kills 14 in Russia’s Yaroslavl region, damages nine apartment buildings

A major fire broke out at a pyrotechnics warehouse in the village of Kubrinsk in Russia’s Yaroslavl region on the afternoon of September 28.

Fourteen people were killed, REN TV reported, citing the press office of Yaroslavl Governor Mikhail Yevrayev.

Yevrayev wrote on Telegram that officials were preparing to declare a state of emergency in the region. One hundred firefighters and 40 emergency vehicles remain at the scene.

The fire damaged nine nearby apartment buildings, with most of the damage consisting of broken windows, TASS reported.

The cause of the fire remains unclear. Russia’s Investigative Committee is conducting a criminal investigation into a possible violation of industrial safety requirements under Part 3 of Article 217 of the Russian Criminal Code.
