Russian political scientist and election analyst Alexander Kynev arrested in Moscow on drug charges

Moscow’s Perovsky District Court ordered the arrest of political scientist Alexander Kynev on September 25 in a drug case, the independent Russian news outlet Mediazona reported, citing court records and defense attorney Mikhail Biryukov.

Kynev is accused of producing, selling, or shipping illegal drugs on a large scale, a charge that carries a prison sentence of 10 to 20 years. No further details about the case have been disclosed.

It is unknown when Kynev was detained, though he had continued posting on his Telegram channel about election results up until recently. His last post appeared on September 23.
