Ukrainian drones damage homes in Russia’s Rostov region. Moscow mayor says 350 drones were headed for the capital.
More than 50 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight over Russia’s Rostov region during an attack on September 18, Rostov Governor Yuri Slyusar said.
According to Slyusar, no one was injured. In Azov, the attack damaged five private homes and several vehicles. In the Neklinovsky district, it damaged the roofs and windows of eight apartment buildings.
The Ukrainian Telegram channel Supernova+ reported that an air base in Rostov-on-Don was also attacked, a claim Russian authorities have not confirmed.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said more than 350 drones headed toward the Moscow region starting on the evening of September 17, and most were destroyed “at long range.” Air defenses shot down 64 more as they approached the Russian capital. Sobyanin did not disclose the aftermath of the attack.
On September 17, Rostov-on-Don came under a massive attack by Ukrainian drones. Part of the city was left without electricity. Telegram channels reported a fire at the “Rostov-on-Don — Tsentralny” military airfield, in the area where helicopters and planes are stationed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that an An-12 plane, two An-26 planes, and three helicopters were damaged. Russian authorities did not confirm this.
