Chechen activist Mansur Movlayev has attempted to take his own life for a second time, the Anti-War Committee of Russia reported.

Movlayev first attempted suicide on September 15 at a pretrial detention center in Almaty, where he has spent the past year and a half awaiting extradition to Russia. He received medical treatment and was hospitalized. Then, while still in the hospital, he tried to take his own life again.

In 2019 and 2020, Movlayev leaked information about abductions, torture, and fabricated criminal cases in Chechnya to opposition Telegram channels. He fled Russia in 2023 and was detained in Almaty in May 2025. Kazakh authorities denied him asylum, and he has remained in a pretrial detention center under extradition arrest ever since.

After his first attempt, Movlayev left a note saying he was exhausted by injustice and that he faces threats of torture and death in Russia.
