Russian drone strike hits Ukrainian checkpoint on border with Moldova, killing two

Russian drones struck border infrastructure in Ukraine’s Odesa region, according to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. The strike hit the international vehicle checkpoint in Starokozache, on the border with Moldova.

According to preliminary data, the attack killed two people and injured three others, the Odesa regional military administration reported. Operations at the border crossing have been suspended.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the strike, saying the checkpoint had been used “to deliver military cargo into Ukraine.”

The day before, Moldova’s Defense Ministry reported that a drone had entered the country’s airspace from Ukraine, prompting authorities to close it to flights. The drone later headed toward Romania, prompting local authorities to scramble two F-18 fighter jets.

The drone later returned to Moldovan airspace and came down in the country. No casualties were reported.
