Russia’s government allows postal workers to be issued anti-drone rifles

Russia’s government has added anti-drone equipment to the list of gear issued to postal workers, under a decree signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

The list includes “equipment for countering unmanned aerial, underwater, and surface vessels and craft, unmanned vehicles, and other automated unmanned systems,” though the decree doesn’t specify which employees will receive it.

Demand for anti-drone equipment has surged in recent months. The Russian business daily Vedomosti reported in August that purchases of drone defense equipment by commercial companies rose 6.6 times in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier.

The independent Russian news outlet Mediazona noted that postal workers are already issued certain weapons and specialized equipment: 9-millimeter pistols, for example, go to postal car supervisors and employees responsible for transit cash offices.
