‘One small step toward peace’: Kremlin on outcome of U.S. envoys Kushner and Witkoff’s trip to Moscow
Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said Moscow views the Moscow visit by U.S. presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner positively:
Of course, any attempts are more or less effective. This is one small step toward peace. We truly value the peacemaking efforts of the American negotiators very highly.
Peskov said the Kremlin has no information yet on the outcome of the meeting between Witkoff, Kushner, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Moscow does not rule out resuming trilateral talks with the United States and Ukraine, Peskov added, though “it is still too early to talk about the location and the exact timing.”
Witkoff and Kushner visited Moscow and met with Vladimir Putin on September 5, and the following day held a meeting with Zelensky in Kyiv (their first visit to the Ukrainian capital since the full-scale war began).
Participants did not speak of any major breakthroughs following the meetings. After the Kyiv meeting, Zelensky acknowledged the war would most likely continue until winter.
