Russian seventh-grader attacks teacher with knife and pepper spray at a Siberian school. Seven people injured.
A seventh-grader attacked a teacher with a knife during a school assembly in Kansk, Krasnoyarsk Krai, local outlets Ngs24.ru and “Prospekt Mira” reported.
The incident took place at School No. 2, according to media reports. One account holds that the student sprayed pepper spray at her physics teacher and then tried to stab her with the knife, and that a woman believed to be another student’s mother rushed to the teacher’s aid and forced the girl out of the classroom.
A second account says the seventh-grader attacked both teachers and students with the knife and also set fire to a door. The motive for the incident remains unclear.
The school has declined to comment on the incident. Russian National Guard officers and ambulance crews responded to the scene, and the Internal Affairs Ministry of Krasnoyarsk Krai stated that it is establishing the circumstances of the incident.
The regional Health Ministry told Ngs24.ru that seven people — five children and two adults — were injured in the attack on the school in Kansk. “All those injured were examined, received the necessary medical care, and were referred for outpatient observation,” the ministry stated.
