Moscow City Court has begun hearing the case against Ivan Semenikhin, an officer with the Interior Ministry’s Main Directorate for Criminal Investigation, the independent Russian outlet Mediazona said. Semenikhin specialized in solving crimes against children.

Semenikhin’s connections with colleagues abroad also helped him save the boy. Whether the treason charges are linked to these contacts is unknown.
