Russia designates the independent news outlet Mediazona a ‘foreign agent’ — again

Source: Ministry of Justice of Russia

Russia’s Justice Ministry has designated the news outlet Mediazona a “foreign agent,” essentially for the second time.

The ministry also added six others to the registry: the project Pervym Reysom (“First Flight”); journalists Miloslav Chemodanov, Igor Sadreev, and Natalya Kiseleva; cybersecurity expert Alexander Litreev; and political scientist Vsevolod Bederson.

Mediazona had already been designated a “foreign agent” in December 2021, when the ministry added the outlet’s founding legal entity, OOO ZP, to the registry.

Mediazona itself explained that OOO ZP was later liquidated and that the ministry then removed the outlet from the registry. As a result, Mediazona had not formally appeared on the “foreign agents” registry until today’s listing.
