Russia’s Transport Ministry denies changing how it handles trip data, saying a plan to share statistical information is limited to monitoring anonymized ticket-price data

Source: TASS

Russia’s Transport Ministry has no plans to change the rules for storing and processing the data on Russians’ trips that carriers submit to the state. The outlet Verstka previously reported that the range of data collected would be expanded, citing a draft order from the ministry.

According to Verstka, the draft order would also require carriers to submit data on the trips Russians actually take, not just the ones they plan. The data would be stored in a database accessible to law enforcement and security agencies within half an hour after a trip ends.

A Transport Ministry representative told the state-run news agency TASS that the ministry is proposing allowing only anonymized data to be shared with Russia’s state statistics agency, Rosstat, to monitor plane and train ticket prices. Rosstat said it would use the anonymized data solely for statistical purposes.
